Josh Schonwald comes to Gleanster with more than fifteen years of experience in digital media strategy. An award-winning journalist, his work has appeared in numerous publications, including the New York Times, Washington Post, Crain’s Chicago Business and DM News. He has worked as managing editor for CBS.com’s New York affiliate and as senior editor of the University of Chicago business school’s alumni magazine. Schonwald is the author of a forthcoming book for HarperCollins that explores the future of food production technologies. In addition to his journalistic work, Schonwald is a pioneer of applying digital tools for cause-based marketing. In the early 90s, as deputy director of interactive media for the Democratic National Committee, he introduced online fundraising and list-building techniques that became the blueprint for Democratic campaigns across the country. As a consultant, he continues to work to develop online and mobile microtargeting strategies that can aid progressive political and nonprofit organizations. A graduate of Macalester College and Columbia University’s journalism school, Schonwald lives with his family in Gleanster’s hometown of Evanston.
